Chocolate is made by the Cacao plant. The main problem with the plant is that it’s only able to grow within a very limited strip of land located roughly 20 degrees north and south of the equator.
And more than half of the world’s chocolate production originates from Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, two West African countries.
Raise in the temperature make difficult to survive the Cacao plant. And the temperature will increase rapidly in the few next decades.
So, a company called Mars has collaborated with the University of California-Berkeley scientists and they will try to manipulate the DNA of the plant to survive in hot condition.
